About Encarna

Terapia Reversión del Dolor · Denia

Encarna Espunya has over 40 years of clinical experience as a physiotherapist and osteopath. For 20 years, she also taught in both private and university settings. She translated Georgie Oldfield’s Chronic Pain: Your Key to Recovery into Spanish and is the author of her own book, Stop Dolor, which presents her innovative and transformative approach to chronic pain recovery.

She has trained in two leading mind-body approaches to chronic pain recovery: Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), developed by Alan Gordon, and Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET), developed by Howard Schubiner.

Her professional path took a decisive turn in 2013, when she discovered Dr. John Sarno’s book Healing Back Pain. This led her to explore the mind-body field in depth and ultimately to move away from manual therapy and devote her clinical practice exclusively to hands-off physiotherapy, informed by these emerging approaches. In 2014, she trained in the approach developed by the Stress Illness Recovery Practitioners’ Association (SIRPA UK).

She is a member of the Association for the Treatment of Neuroplastic Symptoms (ATNS) and the Spanish Society of Physiotherapy and Pain (SEFID).

Today, Encarna leads her own model, Terapia Reversión del Dolor (TRD), through which she helps people work toward the reversal of chronic pain and other persistent symptoms by addressing mind-body processes. She also trains healthcare professionals in the TRD approach. The complete TRD model—its theoretical foundations, therapeutic framework, and practical application—is presented in her book Stop Dolor, which brings together the approach she has developed, applies clinically, and teaches to other professionals.
