Chronic pain and persistent physical symptoms can shape years of someone’s life. Many of my patients arrive after a long search for answers: normal scans and lab results, one specialist after another, treatment after treatment without lasting change — and often, at some point, the message that it’s “probably psychological,” which tends to leave people feeling dismissed rather than helped.

I understand this journey personally, having walked it myself — which is part of why I bring genuine passion and conviction to this work. I’m Dr. Susanne Schröder, a board-certified specialist in Anesthesiology with additional qualifications in Intensive Care Medicine, Naturopathic Medicine, and Mind-Body Medicine. For many years, I worked as a senior physician (Oberärztin) in intensive and anesthesia care, giving me a close, practical understanding of the German healthcare system — including where it tends to fall short for patients whose symptoms don’t fit a clear diagnostic box. My training took me through Germany, Australia, and Switzerland.

At my practice, Mind Body Doc in Düsseldorf, I treat chronic primary and nociplastic pain as well as neuroplastic symptoms more broadly. Together, we look at your symptoms through the lens of current pain science and neuroplasticity, using structured methods such as Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET) within a biopsychosocial treatment plan, complemented by classic Mind-Body techniques like breathing and relaxation exercises. I regularly exchange knowledge with leading clinicians in this field, including Howard Schubiner.

Alongside my practice, I continue working in intensive care medicine within the German public health system, staying close to acute medicine.

I’m also a mother of two, which has deepened my patience and empathy for what people truly need when they’re struggling. Your symptoms are real, and you deserve a physician who takes them seriously and helps you find your way back to a life not defined by them.

Symptoms I commonly help with:

  • Chronic or persistent pain, including back, neck, hip, and pelvic pain
  • Sciatica and nerve-related pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Fibromyalgia and widespread pain
  • IBS and other digestive symptoms
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Anxiety-related physical symptoms
  • Symptoms without a clear structural cause
