Dr. Batson received her medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center and completed dual training in internal medicine and psychiatry at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She has worked in varied medical settings including adult primary care, inpatient psychiatry consult-liaison services, outpatient community mental health care and with tele-health start-ups. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Meharry Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health and the Medical Director of the Meharry Behavioral Health Clinic in Nashville, TN. She is board-certified by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Batson’s professional career has spanned the breadth of mental health care, treating patients who suffer from the debilitating effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depressive disorders, psychotic disorders, bipolar disorders, ADHD, autism and intellectual disabilities. Many of her patients also suffer from debilitating physical conditions such as chronic pain, muscle tension, headaches, gastrointestinal symptoms and other physical manifestations of a chronically activated stress or danger response in the brain. Dr. Batson’s experience has taught her that these stress-related conditions can be treated, and even cured using a wholistic approach to healing of the spirit, mind and body.

Having suffered from her own chronic pain conditions for a decade and recovered with the help of ATNS practitioners, she appreciates and understands the suffering of chronic pain patients and the specialty care required for them to fully heal. She is the Chief Psychiatry Officer and Co-founder of OvidDx, a mobile-first, app-based educational platform teaching health care providers how to diagnosis and treat these conditions.
